Brooklyn’s DESNA has joined Kuukou Records with a new stunningly unique three-track EP, Frou Frou, featuring a remix by Simina Grigoriu. As one of DJ Mag’s emerging acts to watch in 2019, she channels a futuristic sound; though her sound is heavily techno-focused, she pulls inspiration from a variety of genres to create a vast system of soundscapes. Heavy on the percussion from the very first second, and tail-spinning into a deep, hypnotic groove, DESNA showcases her sound to the full with this one. Naming artists such as Ben Klock, Len Faki and Radio Slave as some of her inspiration, it’s easy to understand where her sound has developed from. “Frou Frou”’s commanding bassline and intense, pressure-filled build ups make it the perfect soundtrack for those dark after-hours in the club. A sprinkling of vocals, repeating “work it” throughout the build ups give the track that extra-memorable edge.
