Chaos Chaos' dreamy single "Blue" is a big mood for summer [Video Premiere]

Sister-duo Chaos Chaos are dropping their new single "Blue", and it's a big mood for the longest day of summer. Lifted off their self-titled 2018 album, "Blue" takes us back to childhood vacations. By way of toy-like keys and sweet vocal harmonies, the synth-pop track stirs memories of having all the time in the world and nothing to do.

As siblings and co-creators, Asy and Chloe Saavedra share a lifetime of playing music and growing up together. As such, they filmed the music video for "Blue" in Upstate New York, where they used to live. Drummer Chloe tells EARMILK, "There is something very beautiful and slightly sad about Upstate summers. There’s this fiery boredom and drive to do something more, yet you’re in total isolation and surrounded by beautiful nature."

In the clip, the sisters wander around. Sometimes they skip rocks across a lake, and at other times watch cars drive by. However mundane, they do it together. Chloe explains, "The video captures this isolation Asy and I felt living there, feeling like there was no-one we could really relate to who lived up there". Bouncy yet subdued, "Blue" finds its emotional depth between dance and despair. "It captures this ‘us against the world’ feeling. When there’s just one person in the world who understands you, be it a friend or sibling," says Chloe.

With their strong bond, Chaos Chaos have been able to diverge their music in a way that would trip most bands up. For example, they've changed band names (formerly Smoosh), toured with Death Cab for Cutie, had music featured on sci-fi cartoon Rick and Morty, and recorded a birthday song for Kanye West. In their stride, they've genre-shifted across twee-pop, piano ballads and industrial rock. "I think changing our sound is part of our escapist mentality," says Chloe. "We’ve always moved around a lot and changed friends and everything familiar to us, but the one thing that stays the same is us, creating together."
