Folk duo Dracula release their new LP Dorys and Eli, a stunningly crafted work of soothing serenades. The first track off the LP is entitled “La Zenaida”, featuring delicate guitar, soft horn and layered harmonized silken vocals, this charming song sung in Spanish is a genuine masterpiece of musical art.
Then there’s “First Time I Ever Saw Your Face”, with restful, featherlike soundscapes of tranquil guitar and effortless harmonies. The track is a dazzling love song that simply takes your breath away. Another staggering song off the album is their stunning rendition of Elia y Elizabeth's hit "Descripción" continuing with their signature sound of intricate harmonies and tender guitar, the lyrics and melody shimmer in all its splendor. "For this track, we traded the subdued funk groove of the original 1972 version for rolling nylon arpeggios to evoke the imagery and texture of the waves along the shore, and the wind through the hair of the song's beloved,” Dracula explains.
Not limiting themselves to folk songs, their take on Selena's "Como La Flor", which made NPR's top 100 tracks of 2018. Showcasing elegant emotive vocals atop gentle guitar, this exquisite interpretation of a Selena classic is nothing short of brilliance.
Dracula are one of the prime folk acts of Miami and South Florida. Their songs are mostly sung in English and Spanish, but their repertoire also includes Portuguese, French, and Japanese. Formed in 2009 by Eli Oviedo and Dorys Bello, they have been actively playing and performing music since childhood. Dracula have performed in diverse scenes and venues, including the Vizcaya Museum, a cemetery series with Spring Break at City of Miami and Pinewood Cemeteries, and the International Noise Conference held yearly at Churchill's Pub. Their act is simple and stylistic consisting of only vocals and guitar. They have gained a large fan base through their captivating live performances, kneeling in front of each other, creating a close and intimate setting.
Dorys and Eli is the duo's first full-length album and first vinyl release in their 10-year existence. Recorded by Andrew “Le Spam” Yeomanson’s City of Progress Studios, mixed by Yeomanson alongside Grammy-winning engineer Carlos Alvarez, the record is their first suit of music to feature studio musicians and session players.
