Most music is better with a live band. Just ask South London vocalist Rai-Elle, who teamed up with the four-piece group The Compozers at Red Bull Music Studios London for a live recording of songs from her debut EP KSB. The session also produced a video of the group performing the song “KSB (Always On My Mind).” While Rai-Elle is an impressive artist in her own right and the original version of the track is enjoyable, The Compozers provide a vivacious energy that takes the song to another level.
From the video’s opening moments, it’s abundantly clear that the level of musicianship in the room is through the roof. Rai-Elle, who was a finalist on The X Factor, shows astounding vocal chops and the presence of a seasoned veteran despite her young age. The Compozers offer up some buttery slow jam goodness with crackling energy and tasteful fills, particularly from drummer Steven “Drummerboy SJ,” giving the song an added dimension. The buildup coming out of the song’s bridge, for example, is an especially bombastic moment that will get plenty of heads nodding along. The collaboration appears seamless from the video, so we can only hope that this won’t be the last time we see Rai-Elle and The Compozers together.
