London based jazz drummer Yussef Dayes is best known for his contributions to the highly acclaimed Black Focus collaborative LP with keyboardist/producer Kamaal Williams as Yussef Kamaal, which was released back in 2016 and immediately touted as a modern UK jazz-funk masterpiece.
The duo has since disbanded to the dismay of fans and music afficionados alike, so that the pair could pursue their own respective solo projects (with Kamaal Williams self-releasing his debut LP The Return back in May). Last week Dayes decided to give fans a taste of what to expect from his own solo LP with the release of his debut single "Love Is The Message" featuring and producer/pianist Alfa Mist & guitarist Mansur Brown.
The eccentric composition is a testament to Daye's controlled & intricate prowess behind the drum set by being able to lead the rest of his band in perfect harmony without being overpowering, allowing for Alfa Mist's glimmering key melodies to interplay with the scattered drum fills, until Mansur takes the trio soaring with his fierce guitar riffs.
