Multi-talented emcee/actor Lyric Michelle delivers her newest record "Free Thoughts Freestyle" and it's accompanying video for our consumption.
The Chris Rockaway produced track is built on a somber/cinematic soundscape that sounds like something out of a retro movie. The somewhat minimalistic vibe also plays a huge role in the way Lyric delivers her flows in a shapeshifting manner merging her commanding cadence with some melodies for good measure. "Free Thoughts" shows Lyric right in her element as she dwells on toxic relationships, lying males who are out to prey on unsuspecting females. She further explains the inspiration behind the track as follows "This stream of consciousness comes after telling a friend about some of the guys I use to run with, some of the guys I use to date and some of the things I had to do to survive. She literally said I was 'like a trap queen'… made me think about how people got it all fucked up. How the ride or die mentality had me all fucked up."
The visuals, directed by Jessica Lorenzo, are clean, simple and straight to the point placing Lyric center stage while oozing with enormous confidence from start to finish. She also just got back from SXSW where she performed at HipHopDX's official showcase. Free Thoughts is Lyric's most introspective work to date and is sure to open doors for competitive female rappers. The Houston based rapper is also building her acting resume with a starring role in an upcoming pilot, For Evan's Sake, which won the Audience Award at the 2018 Pan African Film Festival.
