Far too much time has passed since Charles has graced the soundwaves with a new song. In fact, Charles hasn’t released anything in nearly a year! The last time the North London crooner dropped a track was back in March ‘17 with “Red.Green.Gold.” Thankfully, the wait is over, as Charles is here with yet another hit, “Darker Shade of Green.”
“Darker Shade of Green” makes up for Charles’ absence and then some. The track delivers heavy amounts of funk with walking bass lines, grooving guitar licks and of course, Charles’ booming vocals.
About the track, Charles said, “Being in love is a beautiful thing, but people forget to tell you what the actual T is. It’s hard fucking work, graft and jealousy loves to creep in at any opportunity. I struggled with that emotion [jealousy] because I never expected it from love. It took me completely by surprise, and it’s still something that I’m trying to keep under control.”
Even though “Darker Shade of Green” revolves around a rather grim and problematic emotion, jealousy, Charles makes it sound beautiful. His cadence, harmonies and brutal honesty make this track a real gem. Now if only we could convince him to drop more than one record a year….(we're just anxious fans!)
