UK pop duo Amethysts have shared their shimmering new single "Be There" and we have your first listen here. Amethysts consists of Clarice Parrott and Simon Lucas Hughes, who write, record, and co-produce all of their music together in their own studio. They have only released a few songs so far, but with those releases gained attention from BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens and Radio 6's Tom Robinson. 2017 saw them playing their first headlining London shows in addition to sessions with Sofar Sounds, BBC Introducing, and playing Secret Garden Party.
On "Be There", what really grabbed me was Parrott's voice. Its clarity and fluidity is the perfect vessel for their sweet and soulful melodies. Parrott wrote the lyrics from a place of optimism and hope around a personal family matter, and this emotion bleeds through her performance. Their production and songwriting is also undoubtedly solid. A steady kick is the song's heartbeat throughout, itself unassuming and there to anchor the catchy refrain. Amidst a sheen of sparkle in the high end, their love of combining synths and ethereal, effected guitars stays strong in this track. The duo display their ability to sculpt sounds with a restraint that allows the beauty of their melodies to shine. Stay tuned for their upcoming EP this spring.
