Denzil Porter is much more than another Bronx spitter. The tongue-twisting, harrowing flows Porter brings to the table put him ahead of other New York emcees. Before his Denzil Porter days, he dropped three tapes from 2008 to 2011 under the moniker Young Flame. Just under a decade in the game, and Porter has mastered his style: conscious, action movie ear-candy.
"Time Soon Come" is led off by a wavy melody, lush strings, and a subdued percussion line. Porter glides over the beat while letting his inner thoughts and quandaries spill out. This is the "What is success?" song taken to the next level. The flow is all at once poised and spastic, revealed Porter to be a master of utilizing space. He escapes the trap of making a pensive track too timid for its own good. A standout track from Semantics of Mr. Porter, "Time Soon Come" is one of the most endearing and humanizing moments on the album and in Porter's catalog.
