The London based afro fusion duo Kamo and Prince known as NewAgeMuzik are back at it with a new single titled "Serious". This single comes one month right after they dropped their afro-pop infused jam "Brown Skin".
The duo team up with their usual collaborator Dami Bones, who crafts a mellow, trap bounce somewhat shifting from the soundscape of their previous single. While the sounds may have changed, the style still retains the afro-centric feel but with an updated hip hop swagger. They channel their inner emcees delivering machine gun flows laced with catchy melodies. They do get some props for interpolating a seminal Biggie Smalls line by the way.
The visuals helmed by director Tshiz Nelson takes the gritty hip-hop approach with energetic performances and a slight homage to the Mad Max: Fury Road flick with the eclectic costumes and grimy aesthetics.
"Serious" is taken from NewAgeMuzik’s forthcoming sophomore EP 'CarTunes 2', which is the follow-up to their debut project 'CarTunes',
Speaking about the inspiration for "Serious", NewAgeMuzik say,
“Musically, we wanted to bring the energy with ‘Serious’ and stake our claim as a force to be reckoned with in 2017. Most of our previous singles are quite mid-tempo, what the scene might consider as ‘vibes’, but we don’t want to be boxed in by that, so we did something totally different and outside of the box for ‘Serious.’
