Ardency is an LA-based duo that makes music which could best be described as dreamy synth pop stuff but the good kind.
Their new 3-track EP “Honey Moon” is a beautifully crafted project that shamelessly pulls sounds straight from the 80s into the present. This isn't a slapdash piece of work thrown together.
“I Saw The End” drifts thoughtfully through a limbo-like space, with poetic lyrics that create an image of phantasmagorical turmoil in a relationship. It’s satisfying in the sense that it feels less like a track you’d find on SoundCloud and more like something you discovered in a vinyl store.
I don’t know much about 80s music to be quite honest, but the melding of nostalgic synths with a modern twist is compelling enough to keep your ears hooked throughout on “Drown”.
Finally, “Under An Ego” is a restless energy-laced song to serenade your ears on angsty days. The lyrics thematically go along sonically with the production– they tell a story directed towards a girl (it’s always about a girl) and, unresolved, leaves listeners with the provocative statement “And I found the answer / But I'll never thank her”.
There’s so many good things about this EP but to describe it in any more words would be an injustice. Give it a listen and fall in love with it.
