The music world was hit with some major losses in 2016, with several iconic figures unexpectedly leaving us much too soon. And though there is some criticism in taking capital from the industry loss through covers and remixes, it's undeniable that behind every tribute there is an emotional impact from the loss. Just when we thought we were hit with the worse, the year concluded with George Michael's death on Christmas day.
Coincidentally, Houston-based artist Prismo had decided to cover the jazzy pop classic "Careless Whisper" early Fall 2016. Regarding his cover, Prismo states, "In my mind, the original Careless Whisper might be one of the most catchy and influential song of the 80s. At the beginning of last fall I decided to cover it and put my own creative spin on the tune. After the unfortunate passing of the original artist, George Michael, I was hesitant to continue my plans to release the cover, but I feel like my passionate and uplifting twist of of the song pays an honorable tribute Michael's work." .

The multi-talented artist is best known for fusing his own vocals with eclectic electronic production. His cutting edge sound is painted with a recognizable swagger, updating the ever so popular future bass style with a personalized twist. Prismo has unveiled remixes before, including a smooth rework of Twenty One Pilots "Heathens". In his version of "Careless Whisper", he takes the 80's classic and refreshes it's aesthetic with a powerful future bass sound. With a deep build up and it's melodramatic lyrics, Prismo implements a unique drop full of impactful vocal chops and cinematic ambiance. Prismo's cover is tastefully done, reiterating a love for the original in a modern and innovative setting.
