MoRuf initially got my attention with his criminally underrated 2013 mixtape Shades.Of.Moo, that had the introspective MC going over an assortment of jazz and soul inspired instrumentals courtesy of some of the best producers in the underground (including Madlib, Knxwledge, Like, & Iman Omari). It was a quintessential summer album that properly showcased his clever wordplay and carefree demeanor over the span of 48 minutes, calling to mind a similar vibe as a golden era De La Soul or A Tribe Called Quest.
The New Jersey native's newest project is an 8 track EP entitled Loosies, that features some spot on production from the likes of Tek.lun, Mohdal Soul, Ohbliv and more. This is musically MoRuf's most diverse project yet as even though he maintains that lo-fi poetics of his past releases, this one also features the artist entering the realm of Future Bass on the first track "1takemookie" and even doing a bit of singing on the third track "glo'd".
