Philly-bred producer Bahner is also the drummer of Cheerleader. The indie quartet creates washed out remixes of acts like Hippo Campus and The Wombats, adding sunny twists that are part shoe gaze and part dream pop. Outside of Cheerleader, Bahner whips up his own remixes, showcasing a more bubblegum synth-pop side of his artistic work. His latest remix is of New York-based indie group Panama Wedding’s track “A Brand New Life” off their Into Focus EP, available here. The original track is a subdued but sunnier song about running away and starting a new life — kind of like, let’s say, a modern take on Everclear’s early 2000s hit “I Will Buy You A New Life.” Bahner takes the mid-level tempo and speeds it up, whilst injecting a heavy amount of shimmering synths. It all comes together to create an infectious remix that falls somewhere between the pop sounds of Cyndi Lauper and Carly Rae Jepsen. Check out a video of Panama Wedding performing the original track live below.
