Vic Mensa asks are you "Wimmie Nah"

Although “Wimme Nah” came out two days ago, it was not the first time I had heard Vic Mensa’s most recent hit single off his upcoming Streetlights EP. Last weekend at Lollapalooza, I had the unique privilege of hearing Mensa premiere the track for thousands of loyal Chicago fans at the BMI stage, which happened to be the smallest stage at the festival. To say the least, the BMI stage was exploding with fans and new listeners of Mensa as he performed his ecstatic, soon-to-be hometown-fan anthem that is “Wimme Nah”.

Premiering the track at his Lollapalooza debut was exceedingly fitting seeing that the track is all about how Mensa has accumulated a large devoted following from the populace of the city of Chicago, Mensa’s hometown. Mensa navigates producer Kaytranada’s buzzing, synth-driven soundscape with ease as he drops comparisons to Chicago sports legends Michael Jordan and Walter Peyton, alluding to Mensa’s own future greatness as a Chicago rap-artist. Now most people would say that Mensa has a long way to go till he achieves such greatness, but I would argue that Mensa has a much shorter road to success than people believe after witnessing his performance at Lollapalooza. Mensa’s ability to connect so strongly with his hometown audience made for one of the craziest and most turbulent shows out of all the performances that weekend. Both Michael Jordan and Walter Peyton gained their strong followings by impressing people with their surreal performances and acts continuously. Mensa’s performance at the BMI stage was surreal to say the least, and if Mensa continues impressing his fans and the hip hop populace in general then the SAVEMONEY artist will be on his way to achieving the greatness and international fan base he most definitely desires and thirsts for.
