French producer, Fakear (fake·ear) has recently released an impressive multi-style album that plays into a multitude of Eastern and Western societies, paying homage to the sound of their respective ancestors. Fakear has been producing for over four years and shows incredible promise as the missing link between electronic music and music-based cultures of lore. One track in particular embodies everything he has been doing with his productions.
"Darjeeling" is a chanting hard-hitting Indian folk tune that combines everything we need from an electronic song with the traditional instruments of Uttarakhandi and Lavani music, old and new. With the modern feel of A.R. Rahman's work and the properly utilized capability of today's VSTs and synthesizers, Fakear fuses two lively cultures into one. In all honesty, the entire album is worth a careful listen. We've been rinsing it all week.
