German electronic supergroup Moderat, the team consisting of Modeselektor and Apparat, are no stranger to British production wizard Jon Hopkins. Along with their general similarity of style – a chilly, beautifully hypnotic sound – they both happened to pretty much take over the world last year, and seemed to get acquainted in the process, doing a joint interview for Electronic Beats.
Hopkins remixed Moderat's track "Last Time" late last year, and now they've returned the favor, reworking "Abandon Window" from his excellent album Immunity. The original track is one of the album's most subdued moments, a quiet, modest piano piece. Moderat add a rising, machine-like velocity, and by the time Apparat's wordless vocals arrive, it sounds like a cyborg torn between its programming and human emotion. A great collaboration from two of electronic music's kindred spirits.
