Well$'s new single "Dreams Of An Insomniac" is not to be slept on

At only 19 years old, Well$ already has an album under his belt and a highly anticipated new mixtape on the way. MTSYD: The Revenge of the African Booty Scratcher follows Pictures on Silence and the latest single from the Charlotte rapper uses an instrumental which originally featured on that record. “Dreams Of An Insomniac” continues Well$’s ascension to the upper echelons of hip hop where artists are able to draw from personal experiences in creating emotional but still undisputedly good music. Last time we covered “Lil Tommy”; Well$’s truly dark tale of a high school shooting involving his cousin. “Dreams Of An Insomniac” builds on the same formula with more insight into an adolescence riddled with crime and Well$'s hard work on his quest for success.

The familiar loop of “I know, I know what you like” resurfaces amongst spray can effects and spacey chimes in the Atu produced track that gets cinematic while maintaining an integral realness. Well$’s flow feels personal and immediate with a number of golden bars including a quotable excerpt which gets a menacing pitch drop:

“When all you do is dream but it seem like every n**** be pitching, these blogs won’t give me a hit so I’m screaming f*** what they’ pitching, I’m’a stay me. Tryna make a living, pray a n**** never play me”

Well$ says it himself in “Dreams Of An Insomniac”. He wants it all. And with plenty of hype already built for MTSYD, which is now expected out on April 28, he's going the right way about getting it.
