These bodacious beats from Form & Shape (Calvin Hansen) take root from Anchorage, Alaska. Fans of eclectic beats, synth arrays, and kickin' beats will instantly fall head over heels. I've been extremely critical of new artists and sounds these past weeks since my free time has been dwindled thanks to me conforming to the rest of society. He caught my ears with the unified and eclectic style of his beat-weaving. At times, his work straddle the downtempo scene, though it would not be justice to classify his work into specific genres as he mashes countless styles together. The hook, line, and sinker for me was the track "All Unfurled", which is off of his sophomore album My Conquest Is The Sea Of Stars released on April 9. This particular track is the opener of the album. The first few seconds throws you into unorthodox tempo that is quickly smoothed over by vocal overlay. It's a simple song with an intricate beat. Minimalism at it's best, though the effects are at full force. These characteristics are repeated throughout each song on the album, but are executed differently with varying moods and tempos.
