Vocalist Matthew Koma is the odd man out on a release that features five Dutch powerhouses on production. The American singer's vocal contribution to the track "Sparks (Turn Off Your Mind)" is really what took the collaboration with Fedde Le Grand and Nicky Romero to the next level, and now the newly released remix EP has given another layer of greatness to one of the great tracks of 2012.
Jochen Miller's take on "Sparks" is one which perfectly exemplifies his style – one that is a crossbreed between different genres, never lacking a hard-hitting edge. Known for doing his best work somewhere in between trance and big room progressive, the remix he's done here is larger than life progressive with a dark outline.
Newcomer Iceash makes his debut big name release with his remix, making quite an entrance on the EP. Intricate electro-style synths really set this one apart, and after this introduction I'm really interested to see what we can expect next from this guy.
Nilson, who has recently tailored his sound to a purely melodic progressive direction, gives "Sparks" a treatment of exactly that. Also part of the recent influx in Dutch producers, Nilson has had a lot of support from the labels he's produced under, and his style has been interesting to watch evolve.
