Through a series of very fortunate events, a new artist was uncovered by some of our EARMILK crew at the Veld Music Festival in Toronto. While listening to Pierce Fulton’s mesmerizing set, a song rose out above the rest, and that song was from American DJ and producer Audien (aka Nate Rathbun). He states that his foray into EDM began at age 15, fostered by a musically inclined family and quickly recognized by some of the biggest names in the industry, like Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, and Above & Beyond.
Listening to his latest two progressive trance tracks, “Eventide” and “Unity,” makes his notoriety clear. “Eventide” starts soft, building into a drop where a beautiful piano line sings out; here, the accompanying warm synth chords stop slightly short, giving the track back its sense of urgency. “Unity” (my favorite) features some great elements as well, from continuously resonating vocals to a drop into unexpectedly pure bass and grind. Don’t miss Audien, who will be playing with Porter Robinson in Vegas on August 18 at XS.
