Having featured on some of last year's dopest projects such ScHoolboy Q's Setbacks, Kendrick Lamar's Section.80 and TiRon & Ayomari's A Sucker for Pumps, a lot of listeners may be unaware that BJ The Chicago Kid is a talented artist in his own right with a substantial body of solo work. Just yesterday (coincidentally on the eve of 4/20), BJ's soulful reworking of Crucial Conflict's 1996 breakthrough single "Hay" surfaced. The rendition features some re-purposed production courtesy of Ohio hip hop outfit Fly.Union and a fast-paced vocal delivery which echoes the rapid-fire rhyme cadence heard on the original track. I'm sure this cut will find its way on to a lot listeners' 4/20 playlists. Check out the track and BJ The Chicago Kid's debut album Pineapple Now-Laters available now on iTunes.
