YouTube Originals announced their latest live-stream event, "HBCU Homecoming 2020: Meet Me On The Yard". Hosted by 2 Chainz and LaLa Anthony, the live stream will premiere Saturday, October 24th at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on YouTube. BET will also serve as the exclusive broadcasting partner and is set to air the event at 8 pm ET/PT. Featuring performances from 2 Chainz, Saweetie, Chloe x Halle, NLE Choppa, band performances, and much more, the event will be dedicated to shining a light on racial justice, amplifying Black voices, and elevating Black culture.
With the pandemic putting the integral, annual HBCU tradition on pause, YouTube will take the deeply rooted celebration virtual. The two-hour live stream will boast homecoming traditions aimed to raise funds for the United Negro College Fund. The UNCF will also share half of the funds with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. As an important, cultural mainstay of the black community, the loss of homecoming season is a disappointing blow to the Black community. Produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment and Live Nation Urban, the live-stream will serve as an opportunity to keep the HBCU homecoming legacy alive.
