The Curls is a Chicago psych-rock sextet that steers through the tides of otherworldly sonic cadencies. The elements of psychedelic, jazz, and experimental rock merge together as the band’s soundscape is as eclectic as their own enigmatic presence. On their latest endeavor, “Isn’t It Funny,” the band starts out with this Elton John echoing vibe before breaking into its very own symmetry.

“Isn’t It Funny” features the vocals of experimental artist Sophagus as the rest of band creates an absorbing, 70s vintage resonance that’s transfixing and enthralling. From the jazz-infused moments to the groovy underpinnings that are embedded deep within, The Curls have concocted a winning formula worthy of repeated listens. Tight drums, vivacious synths, hypotonic dual vocals, and the sweet sound of the saxophone unite on “Isn’t It Funny” in the best of ways.

The latest track serves as the band’s first single off their forthcoming sophomore album, Bounce House, out in April. It follows 2017 debut LP, Super Unit and one-off singles “Tidal Wave” and “Bad Boi” from last year. The group consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Mick Fansler, Jenny Marshall on keys/trumpet/saxophone, Rami Atassi on guitar, Anna Holmquist on vocals, Matt Puhr on bass, and Carl Swoveland on drums.
