Australian artist total tommy has released her new single, “Winona Forever.”
Released via Play It Again Sam, “Winona Forever” was written in a rapid four-hour session during total tommy’s last day in London, resulting in a punchy, emotionally charged, unabashedly queer grunge-pop track which really shows off total tommy’s rough-edged vocals.
“There’s a picture of Winona Ryder that I’d seen where she’s on a bike outside a block of high-rise buildings, and the imagery of that inspired me so much of how small we are in the expanse of a city,” says total tommy.
“How it’s easy to lose your identity when you’re not surrounded by the people who really know you, and how we subconsciously shape-shift to fit our environments.”
“Winona Forever” is a total earworm, and feels both honest and lacking in pretension. If it’s a sign of what can be expected from total tommy in the future, it’s definitely a good sign.
