Rising star Filipino boy group BGYO continue to push their sound in bold new directions with their captivating new EP Headlines, which invites us on an emotional journey rooted in their diverse musicality.

Evolving with each release, the band's Y2K inspired music chronicles an unapologetic relationship and the excitement of new romance. Led by luscious instrumentals and lyrics laden with longing, the core of the EP is perfectly encapsulated in the intimacy and romance of focus track "Dance With Me"

Weaving through the complexities of connection, moments of vulnerability and desire, and a sense of unconditional love, BGYO continue to shape a distinct signature and leave their stamp on pop music. In conversation with Earmilk, the group delve into the creative process behind the EP, what sounds they'd like to experiment with in the future and the most surreal moments of their career.

What’s the message/inspiration behind ‘Headlines’?

Our song ‘Headlines’ is about having love and confidence in a person that is so loud and proud, your love for them can make it to the headlines.

Take me through the band’s creative process? What sparks ideas and motivates you as a group?

For our latest EP ‘Headlines’ the main idea that sparked and connected this EP was the journey of love. It’s something that feels good to talk about, to perform, to listen to, and to share with others.

Mikki-  For our latest EP, we were able to collaborate with international songwriters and producers during  the 2024  ABS-CBN Music Camp. Going into the camp we decided to go for more of an R&B and danceable sound.  And after making a lot of songs in the camp, we had a listening session with the group, label, and management to discuss which songs are good to release this year or in the near future.

How would you say your sound has evolved over time and where do you see it going from here?

Over time, we went through two albums, an EP, and after being able to experiment and try different genres, we’ve found our sound through ‘Trash’, ‘Divine’, ‘All These Ladies’, and our latest EP ‘Headlines,’  we’re making the most out of it. We’ve evolved into a sound that feels more grounded and mature, but it still carries that same youth and freshness from when we started.

Personally, what’s the most rewarding part of the music making process for you? What’s the most challenging part of it?

Akira- The most rewarding part is when the song finally comes to life when you hear it finished and see how people connect to it. One of the most challenging parts of making music is the recording process, being critical of yourself and making sure you sing each line with all the right emotions and notes.

If you could experiment with any genre or concept in the future what would it be and why?

Mikki- I think it would be fun to do a more UK  garage or house type of genre for BGYO since it’s a fun genre to dance to. Or maybe in the future, we can also make an EP with more break up songs or a sad relationship situation concept.

What’s been the most surreal moment of your journey so far? What’s on your bucket list?

Akira – Having our first ever solo concert last October 4, because after 4 years it finally happened. And for the bucket list, more good music to share, more performances and more concerts.

JL- For me, our first solo concert as well. My bucket list is to have a world tour, more hit songs and to meet all of the ACEs around the world.

Finally, if you could describe BGYO and its music in three words, what would they be and why?

Akira- I’d say heartfelt, powerful, and evolving. We want our music to connect with our listeners , we give our all in every performance, and we keep growing with every release.

GELO – Evolving, authentic, empowering.

Mikki- Fun, energetic, and youthful! I think those three best describe BGYO now!

JL- Inspiring, authentic and dynamic. We always want to uplift our  listeners and reflect real emotions and experiences.

Nate – Energizing, Lovely, and Solid. Our music gets people on their feet, our latest EP is about the journey of love, and we have solid sounding music.
