Returning with a powerful piece of leftfield indie, brooding indie duo Normal Average People share their new single "Refund Taxi". The track, which marks a pivotal step for the duo, emerges from the personal experience of Sam Gillbanks’ six-hour wait in Teckomatorp, Sweden. Stranded and helpless, his ordeal ended in a costly taxi ride, the inspiration behind the song’s title and theme.
The track channels these emotions through a haunting bassline and reflective lyrics, creating an immersive sonic experience. The brooding atmosphere, reminiscent of 90s shoegaze, is interwoven with the electronic influences that have become a signature of the duo’s evolving sound. The balance between emotive storytelling and textured production brings a unique depth to the track.
"Refund Taxi" also showcases the duo's growing experimentation with electronic elements, a shift from their earlier work recorded live with a full band. Sam and Emil’s distinct musical styles blend seamlessly, despite the geographical distance between London and Stockholm.
Released via Seb Wildblood’s label all my thoughts, the single is a promising glimpse into Normal Average People’s forthcoming EP project
