Bay Area, CA-raised rapper NL Skooby's upbringing was far from perfect but filled with personal losses, tribulations and tough times. Nevertheless, he was raised with love and care provided by his single mother and older brother (who died at an early age). Being left to his own devices, he found inspiration on the mean streets at a young age but in the process, he discovered a love for music and eventually started a rap group with his brother George called SinceDayOne. The duo didn't take the musical path seriously and just did it for fun but things changed when SinceDayOne died and NL Skooby found himself facing the proverbial fork in the road and he went straight into music.
The story however takes a 180 turn as NL Skooby jumped right back into the streets, doing underhanded things that led to him losing focus. It actually became worse when his granny died and shortly after he caught 2 different gun charges at different times that had him facing close to a decade in prison but luck was on his side as he and his lawyer were able to get it down to 5 years with probation. During that time, he rebranded himself to be a better person for his newly born daughter by putting more work into his music. In 2018, he had the chance to work with Mozzy and Fat Trel on their new single” Pu$$y and after a 2-year drought his next big break came after he worked with YK Osiris, which led to more opportunities with Quando Rondo, Rick Ross, Sean Kingston, Dizzy Wright and others.
In his newest effort "Do Tha Dash", he gets back to his street-savvy ways as he employs a vibrant and energetic soundscape made up of sparse eerie piano phrases and thick 808-driven drums. Armed with his commanding vocals and unfiltered rhyme schemes he reminds listeners that he is always on the grind either way. He sends verbal shots to the detractors and flexes on the ladies who he is planning to bag with his demeanour and unbridled charisma.
"Do Tha Dash" is taken from his new debut album Love me before it’s too late, the first of a trilogy. Parts II and III will be released later this year.
