Salem, Massachusetts musician dev soter has shared a new EP, entitled The Dida Tapes—a graceful and mature new project featuring hazy instrumentation and smooth indie-pop vocals.
The Dida Tapes starts off with the wistful opener "Careful"—a catchy track featuring pensive guitars contrasted with glorious choral vocals. The groovy "Shaking Bodies", which features The China Blue, delivers a brighter guitar sound grounded by a rich bass. Lively drums lock beneath the guitars, creating an endless echo of deep grooves. The Dida Tapes also features soter's break-out single "Hills"— a smooth vocal melody over mellow guitars and cinematic backing vocals.
Topically, he meditates on patience and resilience, finishing the EP with "Too Fast"—a perfect closing track full of smoky guitars and powerful, layered vocals.
dev soter started first creating music in middle school, writing primarily hip-hop songs. However, after teaching himself guitar, he quickly transitioned to a more pop and R&B sound. Since then, he's carved his own idiosyncratic style over the years combining his hip-hop origins with his newfound love for creating pop melodies.
Overall, dev soter sounds graceful and poised on The Dida Tapes. Considering that this is his debut project, his songwriting is mature and disciplined. Judging by this release, soter seems to have a bright future ahead of him.
