Nyck Caution released the visuals to his new track “Product of My Environment,” further building anticipation for his forthcoming project Anywhere but Here. The track channels the spirit of New York with verses from fellow Brooklyn natives Kota the Friend and Flatbush Zombies member Erick the Architect.
“Product of My Environment” is a self-assessing narrative of each rapper’s youth and the conditions they have navigated to make them who they are today. Nyck sets off the track with a sharp storytelling approach, an art that has been coveted in hip-hop since the golden era. This technique perfectly coincides with the video where we see a young Nyck Caution resisting the influences of his surroundings and turning to rhyming as an outlet.
Kota and Erick’s contributions add an extra layer of imagery to the song, addressing heavy family issues that granted insight on just how harsh reality can be in their community. Erick’s lyrical prowess easily stood out on his verse. The Flatbush Zombies rapper-producer demonstrated a consuming flow and cadence that was fitting to bring the track to a powerful finish.
California producer Freddie Joachim constructed the smooth beat with his notable jazz-hop touch, as seen in “Waves” and “On & On” by Joey Badass. “Product of My Environment” is one of two singles released this year that will appear on Anywhere but Here. The full project is set to be released on January 15th.
