Eighteen-year-old Genevieve Stokes releases her new single “Surface Tension " today. The smooth, quiet alt-pop jam from the Portland, Maine native is the latest installment from her forthcoming debut EP, due out this summer.
"Surface Tension" follows the releases of “Morning Dove” and “Simple Love”. All three tracks tell the world what kind of characteristics Stokes brings to the table; a subtly sharp lyrical tongue with an instinct for mixing electronic influence with familiar acoustic sounds. “Surface Tension” presents an artist capable of a wide vocal range, one who follows her instincts, creating an easy-listening yet wisely crafted track. In her own words, Stokes describes the new single as coming from a “subconscious place of feeling unwanted and unfulfilled. I felt disassociated from my relationships and myself.” The single acknowledges this cycle and "tries to change it." This summer’s EP began as a collection of songs for her senior project. Judging by this single alone I’m guessing it has potential to propel her long past her high school years.
