Hailing from Kingston, Canada, The Glorious Sons deliver a raw and stirring performance in this latest unplugged video of "S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)".
Consisting of members Brett Emmons (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keys), Jay Emmons and Chris Koster (guitar, vocals), Adam Paquette (drums, vocals) and Chris Huot (bass) the intimate live performance captured below for “S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)” comes from The Glorious Sons’ sophomore studio album Young Beauties and Fools. The group has really been gaining notoriety across the alt-rock scene and most recently won the 2018 Juno award for Best Rock Album. The track is currently #1 on the Billboard Active and Modern Rock charts for the 4th week in a row.
"When you spend 2/3rds of your life playing in venues at 120 decibels, sometimes it’s nice to break things down. This was a moment for us and our fans to take a breath and feel the songs in another light." Brett Emmons, The Glorious Sons
With a soulful and passionate performance, this latest video delivers that signature coarse vocal that belts out a raspy confession of unfiltered emotion. In today's modern alt-rock, landing that blues style vocal delivery just right is no easy task. Too much can make you come across like a cheap parlor trick trying to score an easy place in another Black Keys/Chris Stapleton playlist but not enough of it can have you coming off like a soulless pop-caricature of Hootie and The Blowfish. But TGS clearly have the right formula and its what's helping set the band apart from the rest.
While some of the more polished tracks from the recent Young Beauties and Fools album leans towards a more radio-friendly indie sound, this latest unplugged video is a hard reminder and a testament to the true musical resolve that fuels the band's songwriting. At the core of their music, we have catchy melodies strung together by earnest emotion which is further strengthened by intimate, real-life moments. This is a band that delivers the kind of honest songwriting that stirs the soul.
The Glorious Sons are about to embark on an extensive US headlining tour kicking off at Boston’s Sinclair on February 12th and including stops at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade, LA’s Roxy Theater and more.
