UK songstress and rapper Guru Ma introduces us to her blend of hip-hop and soul on her new record titled "Izuku."
Using the mellow soundscape by the group CHAD, Guru Ma pays homage to her favourite anime character Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia. Armed with a smooth flow, she paints a picture of an individual overcoming life hurdles regardless of how high or difficult it can be. She doesn't bore the listener with excessive metaphors- which we think it's not needed here- but rather uses examples every and anyone can relate to in one way or another. The track was birthed after she found the beat online and proceeded to write her verse around it with Ken Ross's vocals. While it's quite short with Guru Ma only kicking a verse while Ken Ross provides a soothing vocal performance on the chorus and then some. In a nutshell, the record is a personal reminder for her and whoever is listening never to give up.
