Toronto punk band Greys has been relatively quiet since 2016, and understandably so – the band's sophomore record Outer Heaven released in April of the year, while their surprise companion record Warm Shadow released in October. But make no mistake, frontman Shehzaad Jiwani has been hard at work since. Recently, Jiwani unveiled a new electronic side project titled Golden Drag. The project's first song is called "Aphex Jim," and features a hefty load of talented folks: Laura Hermiston of Twist, Julie Fader, and Neil Dionne from Glocca Morra (RIP to the greatest emo band of all time), and Dogs on Acid.
The song has a tinge of Britpop mixed with melancholic, distant vocal melodies similar to Jiwani's performance in Greys. However, the song is simply not punk, but the tendencies are present – repetitive synths drive the single's sound, while dreamy guitars float in the background of the track's vocals. It's colorful, vibrant, cleverly composed. It's most definitely a promising teaser for what Golden Drag has in store for fans.

The song’s unchanging pulse evokes that claustrophobic lurch you feel when you’ve spent too much time staring at your phone on public transit. Just some everyday lighthearted stuff!
No word yet on when Golden Drag's debut is releasing, but hopefully we'll hear more from Jiwani soon.
