For those familiar with ambient and dream like music, it's safe to say that artists like The Postal Service and Youth Lagoon are perfect to listen to while taking your mind to another dimension of relaxation and creativity.
Emerging from central Florida comes And The Giraffe, a two-piece, Gainesville-based dream folk outfit formed by longtime friends Josh Morris and Nick Roberts. While attending the University of Florida's orientation program a couple of years back, Morris and Roberts met and decided to make music together. As a result, And The Giraffe released their debut Something for Someone EP this past August for free via the band's Bandcamp.
Something For Someone is a dreamy and ambient piece in every sense of the word. The EP is very relaxing from beginning to finish with both Morris and Roberts showcasing their vocal and instrumental talents evenly throughout. "Underground Love" opens the album with a soft electric guitar that echoes throughout the background. Roberts follows in by singing, "Falling under/underground love/The blindsiding wildfire crept through the fog," reflecting his will to maintain his love even in death. "Still" is another standout track from Someone For Something with Morris this time taking the helm as he sings, "We're gonna be big stars some day/And I'm looking for the answers/With my hard turned up to the sky," while featuring instrumental support from Malcom Martin and Robert Edmondson.
And The Giraffe is currently in the works of scheduling their first southeast tour this coming summer, as well as releasing the music video for "Still" sometime in January. For fans of relaxing and intimate music, And The Giraffe is definitely a band worth adding to your collection.
