Something serious is brewing in the Pacific Northwest, specifically in the city of Seattle. While it seems every dope new artist is coming out of Chicago, Seattle has a few up and comers who are making a name for themselves and their city. One such artist is Young IICE. With the release date just over the horizon for his upcoming Moon EP, IICE has released a teaser track in the form of “Blue Moons Later.”

[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/314478806" params="auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true" width="100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]

Produced by fellow Seattlean, J’Von, “Blue Moons Later” is a dream-like love song that sees IICE dealing with some relationship woes. Sung with a melodic rap meets R&B flow, Young IICE’s cadence gives a tenderness to the track that comes across as both childlike and sweet. “Baby, let’s just fix it, I don’t want to go Casper/ Then I get a text like ‘Richard reply faster’/ But you the only person I be texting on the freeway, while I’m driving/all the feelings I'm hidin/” he sings over J’Von’s ethereal beat. You can hear IICE smiling as he sings these bars as if he knows he’ll get in trouble for admitting to texting and driving, but he’s doing it anyway.

To give “Blue Moons Later” a more balanced feel, IICE follows up his initial verse with his girl’s perspective on the chorus. She sings along that he never listens, thus prompting a more direct response from him on his next verse. Instead of attacking it in the same vein as the first, IICE knocks the pitch up on his vocals a bit giving his response more of a desperate feel. You can hear how he wants to make things work, though she isn’t making it easy for him.

After a single like this, Moons EP is something you’ll want to pick up. Luckily, the drop is right around the corner, with an official release date of April 5. Until then, cool out to “Blue Moons Later” above, and stay locked on EARMILK for more.
