Known for his nuanced take on dark, melodic electronic music and film scores in the duo Scratch Massive, French artist Sébastian Chenut has long been an integral part of the European electronic music scene. Sébastian Chenut, however, is voyaging out on his own with a MOTOR OF LOVE, a seven-track mini LP, on Scratch Massive’s newly launched LA based imprint, bORDEL. True to his infectious style, Sébastian Chenut puts forth what has been described as “techno noir,” after the French genre, as he brings the listener through a cinematic-esque journey with his unique style of dark, yet understated techno electronica.

With “Silent Pill,” Sébastian Chenut sets the dark tone with a thunderstorm sample before an acid synth takes over for the rest of the track. While most acid lines are abrasive, Sébastian Chenut allows his to smoothly rolls along overtop a matching bass line and crisp percussion that serve to both ground the track and propel it forward. The mid-track break, with its airy and distorted vocals, solidifies the cinematic quality of Sébastian Chenut’s style. “Silent Pill” is as unique as it is enthralling.
This is definitely one track and LP that should not be missed. Pick up your copy on Beatport today.
