Tycho explores a new realm of darkness with album 'Epoch'

We've anxiously awaited the new drop from band Tycho since their release of Awake back in 2014, and now, just over a week ago, the group has finally shared with us Epoch via Ghostly International.

In many ways, Epoch follows the same addictive traits that Awake featured. We find ourselves hearing smaller hints of darker tones, which at first made me nervous. When I listen to Tycho, I feel the positive context. However, this album drudges up lower melodies and darker tones, possibly acting a switch in style and complexity for Scott Hansen and his San Franciscan band.

"Epoch" is defined as "a period of time in history or a person's life, typically one marked by notable events or particular characteristics." As I listen to this album, I feel they have tried to leave the meaning ambiguous, letting the newer style and tone influence what you believe (or perceive) to be those notable events and characteristics. The ups and downs of this album lead you in no clear direction, which acts only as a testament to their creativity and talent as a band–plain and simple.

Epoch is available now on iTunes, Spotify, and of course everyone's favorite, Soundcloud. Listen below.
