March is the best time of year for devoted dance music fans. In the middle of the month, the annual Miami Music Week touches down in Miami, and provides a platform for everyone from industry insiders to fans to experience the best of everything the artists, management, labels and festival season to come has to offer. Artists debut music on a big scale and in the most intimate places, showing camaraderie and creativity to the fullest. Miami Music Week sees trends come and go, and in the end is what makes the dance music scene familial and authentic in the most thrilling way possible without a doubt every year.
The most thrilling piece of Miami are the constant parties: it's hard to decide where to go when there are 30 events going on in one day. But, those decisions are easier to make when you have all stars from a label we love all in one place. That’s how we ended up linking up with Big Beat Records on their label showcase: with a line up filled with house music mainstays and up and coming talent, we couldn’t resist Big Beat Miami. Held at the newly minted club in the basement of the Delano Hotel in South Beach, Big Beat Miami welcomed fans along with its all stars Cash Cash, CID, Toyboy & Robin, MSTR Rogers and With You into a stand out night amongst the Miami clutter.
Big Beat Records has been a label whose influence goes back to the late 80’s and artists like Quad City DJs, and was relaunched in early 2010 with a new brand behind it. Welcoming artists Skrillex, Cash Cash, Icona Pop and Martin Solveig to its roster, the label has been instrumental in keeping a balance between house music and the attractiveness of infectious pop crossover. Playing everything from disco to electro to their hits "Runaway (U & I)" and their latest release "No Money," the party's attendees sung along and danced to the duo's DJing and live performance.
The new era of Big Beat is all about the merging of genres, and the biggest surprise of the night included the label's biggest hyped name of the moment who exemplifies that mantra to the highest degree. Noted as a "special guest" on the original event flyer, production and DJ duo Galantis surprised fans (along with their Seafox mascot) to perform. Playing everything from disco to electro to their hits "Runaway (U & I)" and their latest release "No Money," the party's attendees sung along and danced to the duo's DJing and live performance.
Also on the roster was house/pop crossover trio Cash Cash, who gained fame in EDM's rise and continue to play underground clubs while hearing their music on the radio. Playing together behind the decks, they along with other of the label members – including others who didn't even perform, like Icona Pop – got to party alongside fans as the early morning progressed.
“Big Beat Miami was super intimate and all energetic vibes. So fun having all our friends and label mates in one room dancing together!” – Cash Cash
“Had a great time with the Big Beat crew and EARMILK during our Big Beat Takeover during Miami Music Week. The crowd’s good energy kept their feet moving all the way till sunrise.” – CID
Big Beat's Miami party was amazing fun, and the first time we'd met a lot of the artists on the label in person – so it was nice to have everyone in the same room for once. We were on early, which allowed us time to party after – I think one of our favourite moments was both fully losing our shit to With You's bootleg of Rihanna's "Work." Absolute weapon! – Toyboy & Robin
One of the most impressive moments of the night came from label newcomers With You and MSTR Rogers, who really used Miami to demonstrate their talent for the first time. That's what's the best all around experience of Miami Music Week, and why industry insiders and fans alike head back to South Florida each March.
"Miami definitely knows how to party and Big Beat knows how to throw one!! This party was off the chain from the moment we walked in…by 5am, when the lights came on, they had to kick us all out!! Loved every minute of it…all the acts who played were amazing and inspiring! Such an honor to be a part of such a great family!!! Thanks again for having me…” – MSTR Rogers
