Brooklyn based producer Heavy x Mellow -AKA Everett Romano– is what we'd call a new kid on the block in the NYC music scene, but already has an official remix of Lido's "Lost" under his belt. To reiterate, this is his first official remix and it was for an electronic heavyweight like Lido. It received airplay on BBC Radio 1, which can take years -not that he hasn't been producing on his own for some time.
For his part Romano said, "Lido and I started writing together last year so when he asked me to remix a song for his EP I was immediately on board. I ultimately decided to re-sing all of the vocals instead of using the acapella from the original… so in a way it's a cover."
It is easy to understand his namesake, since he has such a dreamy style on each track he produces that comes together in a way that is just very different. When I listen, I feel as though I'm lying on my back and gazing up at the stars. Yet there is still heaviness in his productions, whether it is in the steady beat or the jazzy piano chords he sometimes adds. This one has infinite feeling and it's easy to get lost in it but the music never loses us. It just takes us somewhere we've never been, beyond space, time and as gentle as the laugh samples that round the track out.
