While Brainfeeder is one of the most experimental labels out there, one does tend to expect a few things from them. The label's M.O. is mixing blunt-addled hip-hop beats and psychedelic sonic tinkering, although this is of course a bit of a generalization. Veteran member Stuart Howard, better known as Lapalux, is certainly in this realm to an extent, but his music has an added sensual element. He's outdone himself this time. His newest track, "Movement I, II, & III," is an epic seven-minute journey through an ever-shifting landscape of his unique production style.
While it's anyone's guess where each "movement" begins and ends, the transitions in the track are clear as well as plentiful. Ambient, beatless segments evolve into lush, head-nodding hip-hop instrumentals, then recede into the fog from whence they came before coming alive again.
For now, "Movement I, II, & III" is a stand-alone track, with no upcoming releases mentioned. Lapalux released the Nostalchic LP last year, but has had a quiet 2014. Hopefully we'll see a new album soon, but this huge track will certainly help tide us over until then.
