It’s been a long time coming for Weska. Locking himself in the studio for the past three years, and having seen releases on smaller, European techno labels, it’s time for the young Canadian producer to firmly plant his feet in the world of techno. With huge support from Layton Giordani, label boss of Metrum Records and NYC’s most anticipated techno star, Weska’s latest track is a true techno bomb.
The 'Next Up' EP is Weska’s rite of passage, and his kickoff to what is sure to be a breakout summer. A dominating low end highlighted by a clean one-two synth stab makes the massive A-side track a true dancefloor heater, with that Weska chug that uniquely defines his production style. It’s a head-down, peak-time track that is sure to shake the floor of clubs all summer long. In an era when genres are so easily blended, “Next Up” makes no mistake in establishing itself as one thing and one thing only: hard-hitting techno.
The B-Side, "Don't Leave," is another heavy techno track. Hypnotic sampling work is contrasted by an elongated breakdown that lets you breathe before throwing you right back into the swing of things as Weska drops some heat. It's a different take on club-life techno from "Next Up," and highlights Weska's versatility in production.
This release comes hot off the back of Alberto Ruiz’s remix of “Meko”, as well as forthcoming releases on NB Records, Loose Records, Black & Purple Recordings, and some more work with the team at Metrum. It’s a big summer for the techno guru, and we can’t wait to share what’s ‘Next Up’ for Weska in the coming months. Support the track on Beatport here, and listen below. Enjoy!
