Ciel Rouge hails from the same city as Lil Wayne, Curren$y, Master P, Kevin Gates, and Birdman, New Orleans, yet he still manages for to find a way to sound remarkably different. While there are trace amounts of the weeded out vibes The Hot Spitta championed, the dynamic wordplay that propelled Lil Tunechi's career, and the diversified talents of the South's best hip hop ceo's, there is something about Rouge that makes him stand out among the rest. It could possibly be the fact that he is able to both produce and rap, or it could stem from his wide array of influences and interests; whatever it is though, it is definitely appreciated and welcomed.

Today, Rouge has chosen to let his brand new video, "Pretty Women", loose for the public to see. Not only does he star in this short, but he directed and edited the entire six minute behemoth; his skill set continue to grow. The video is a homage to both Southern hip hop and blaxploitation cinema, creating an entertaining and intriguing set of visuals. The Edward Buckles assisted short film follows the exploit of Rouge's alter ego, an old school pimp, whose every need or want is taking care of by a pair of beautiful women. Cruising through Algiers, Louisiana in his 1979 Gucci Edition Cadillac, Algiers' Slim listens to old school r&b tunes, all of which have become famous samples, pets his Bengal cat and keeps an eye on his ladies. However, his female counterparts are restless and decided to rob a "John," who was out seeking their services.

Rouge's delivery, on "Pretty Women," is worth the price of admission alone. He seems to float above the synthesizer heavy production, but still provides some weighty braggadocio rhymes. Moving from abstractions to literal content in a matter of a few lines, gives everyone a small taste of what they like and quickly becomes infectious. This isn't a song about loving or wanting pretty women, rather these attractive girls are here to be conquered by his intense confidence. With lines like "I'm an asshole, I know, I agree with you", its hard not find Rouge to be an interesting character and clever emcee.

Love, Rouge, Rouge's latest mixtape, is already out and filled with gems. If you liked this video and song, definitely check out his previous music, archived on Soundcloud.
