Just under a week away from the release of his Chubbziano EP, Shane Chubbz gives us all another reason to take notice with his latest release “Pockets”; in a week which has seen the U.K battered by grim weather and gale force winds, Shane teams up with DAP and Mick Jenkins to breath an altogether more refreshing breeze over some inexplicably smooth production by ONGAUD.
The track has a characteristically Dirty South texture, one which you perhaps wouldn't usually associate with a U.K artist; however, Shane spins a yarn so lucid and relaxed that the likes of Slim Thug, Big K.R.I.T and Andre 3000 would have to tip their caps to the self-proclaimed European wavey boy and his Chi Town compatriot.
Up to now he’s demonstrated such a rich diversity in his repertoire; constantly shifting his wordplay and subject matter from the lax to conscious reflection, then up a notch to pure bravado bars. In the wake of his last two solid releases “Holiday/Where I’m From” and “Unbelievable Scenes”, he’s served up another dose of carefully crafted class, ultimately making a compelling case for his imminent Chubbziano EP (dropping 19th Feb) to be the release that might just catch hip hop’s collective community off guard.
If wealth consists of sweet beats and word play, then Shane Chubbz’ pockets are a plenty.
