Bronx based producer Jonathan “MP” Williams did his own “paranoid” remix of Brooklyn songstress Tei Shi’s “M&Ms” track, and has put a distinctly dark spin on things, incorporating musical elements from both boroughs. The original track itself recently was the leading single on the Hype Machine charts and has garnered a great deal of attention. Described as “cinematic” the electronically infused remix just premiered on Hypetrak, and Williams himself recently got a great review in renowned publication Pitchfork for his production chops and remix skills. This producer is particularly inspiring due to the fact that he began with nothing (a broken Akai MPC) and turned himself into a diverse, and entrepreneurial artist, learning to sample record in imports without an instructional manual, a mentor, or even fully functioning digital outputs. Often touted as progressive, with a knack for capturing the ever-changing elements of his home city, Williams is truly a producer to watch, who possesses an admirably unbreakable spirit and passion for his creations.
Named on Pigeons & Planes “Best New Producer” list with the likes of Wondagurl and DJ Dahi, Williams is currently working on his own EP “Balance,” which is due out next year.
