Julian Malone – "Letter From A King"

Julian Malone reminds me of that quiet kid in school. He keeps a low profile but is a part of a cool group of friends that you would quickly ditch all of your amigos to join in a heartbeat without a second guess. You rarely see him going out of his way to appear to be something that he is not. Kind to everyone and never the bully, people generally like him and enjoy his easygoing presence. However, if someone had the audacity to sucker punch his friend, spit game to his girl, or steal his last package of fruit snacks (which, as we all know, is the most heinous of offenses) he would go full savage and start taking heads.

Well, I don't know if there aren't any artificially flavored gummy candies left in the Malone house or  if the Chicago emcee was just feeling some type of way, but on his new single, "Letter From A King", he's out to body everyone. Unlike hip hop's savior, Kendrick Lamar, Malone does not take it upon himself to wake up or shake up the entire landscape. Instead, he is very conscious of who he talking to and he wants them dead. This isn't friendly competition: no one is handing out ice cream cakes. This is war, and he has no intention of falling to anyone.

Julian goes full on Super Saiyan in this track. "Only in nightmares you lil n***s called dreams," he just picks up his competition and repeatedly nut-checks them. Confrontation has not been the driving force behind his rising career. Yet once he start getting in that zone, he refuses to let up. He demolishes everyone and makes it known that his recent absence has been self initiated. There is no falling off or frailty in him, he just chooses to stay away from the limelight.

Hopefully this track is a sign of things to come for the young rapper. He is releasing a new mixtape Diffrnt soon and if this is any indication of how the project will sound–we are in for a treat. You should check out the rest Julian's work on his soundcloud, so you can get acquainted with the rest of his catalog, which is equally strong.
