Back before I knew who MF Doom was, before the listening of De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, I yearned for rhymes that hit the soul. As a young (roughly)10 year old kid, I'd hear it at the stores on Melrose Blvd or down the streets by the high school, and wonder who these lyrical masterminds, and their equally genius production counterparts, were. With little direction, it was a sad time when there wasn't nearly enough music going around.
Cut to now in my twenties, and the music I once longed for is on a bigger scale, prevalent, in my face (as well as yours), and not ready to back down. It's a blessing to see amazing music beats and rhymes flowing around, and no one is making this clearer than the young gentlemen of the Pro Era Crew, with Joey bada$$ leading the way. This time around, he's made news by dropping "Amethyst Rockstar." While the just mixtape is days away, and everyone is bubbling with excitement over what masterpieces will be on it, this track will definitely keep us happy until July 1st, when this track, as well as 16 others will be released on Summer Knights. It's an exciting time in the world of East Coast hip hop, and Joey Bada$$ is keeping a special genre of poetry alive.
