Brighton retro sunshine pop quartet The Stanford Family Band shares shimmering offering "When Lonesome," a layered and radiant number that opens with a lingering instrumental that feels as melancholic as it does it breezy and warm. Led by complex musicality and sincere lyricism, the track captures the band's signature bittersweet pop stylings.
Offering up a soundscapes that's aching and hypnotic in equal measure, each note of the band's musicality carries a sense of longing that feels both timeless and vividly alive. Delivering a peek at their upcoming sophomore EP Go Again, the track weaves together clean guitar twangs, 70s-inspired keys, and intricat vocals framed by a summery, boxy, tape-style production.
Speaking of the track, Laurence from the band, explains, “I think at the time I was listening to a lot of Tommy James and the Shondells, also a lot of Carpenters, and I thought the piano break in the verses was a pretty Carpenters thing to do. I then realised that the start sounded like ‘You’re My Best Friend’ by Queen which made me laugh. A boy could only dream of those pipes.”
Glowing, intimate and vintage-leaning, The Stanford Family Band continues to push forward with their melodic charm while still simmering with a touch of nostalgia.
