Jeremy Aaron is feverish with feeling on “I Can’t Find a Reason”

Jeremy Aaron's newest single, “i can’t find a reason,” a breakup anthem, turns with a loopy wit and verbal dexterity that only seems to belong to Aaron. It comes off like a full-body MRI of what it means to be lovesick, emotional, irrational, and completely unaccountable.

You can hear it in Jeremy’s voice, from that first note, it exudes a peculiar sincerity that’s hard to fake and impossible to ignore. His delivery is urgent but not yelly, an aching croon that lingers, like the fever that lasts after the diagnosis is a misdiagnosis. In Jeremy’s hands, love is a medical mystery. It’s the fever, the pill you can find over-the-counter, the trip to the emergency room, and, paradoxically, the cure.

The single, “I Can’t Find a Reason,” takes its metaphor to the brink, appropriating the language of sickness and cure to describe something gorgeously vague. And yet there is nothing clinical about it. The track surges with life, chaos, and the wildness of vulnerability. It’s a testament to Aaron’s songwriting, original, unfiltered, and, in the better sense of the word, weird.

The musical production allows his words to breathe, with a melody that floats just above the surface of melancholy. It’s stripped down enough to feel intimate but layered enough to lure you further inside the emotional maze he’s constructed. In the end, you’re infected with the unique sound.

Jeremy Aaron is here, lovesick without a cure, chronicling the symptoms in real-time. And in so doing, he’s made a song that stays with you long after it stops, an echo of a diagnosis you didn’t quite see coming.
