GEM confronts the chaos within on debut single “Hurts To Exist”

Breaking the illusion is GEM, with her exhilarating debut single, “Hurts To Exist.” This song is raw, unapologetic, and a wave of emotion. It’s a catharsis, a confrontation with self-doubt, a triumph over adversity.

GEM is an instant-attention command from the opening note. Her aggressive and vulnerable vocals pierce a soundscape that can’t be easily pinned down to a single genre. Dosing the spectral with freneticism, she has imbued her experience with something intuitive to mind, a sort of cumulus of uncut, uncontained thought that's connecting.

Growing up in a family in which music was an omniscient force, GEM’s artistic identity was shaped by a tapestry of influences, from heavy metal to techno. This eclectic beginning is reflected in her audacious approach to songwriting, in which structure is an afterthought to feeling. “Hurts To Exist” explores introspection, confronting the unyielding cycle of self-loathing and recklessness. But instead of allowing these struggles to consume her, GEM transforms them into sonic alchemy, out of emotional turmoil and into art.

“Hurts To Exist” is the lead single from her forthcoming EP, Overthinker. The six-track EP is a deep dive into her heart and mind, indicating themes and tones to come. Each track covers a different stage of GEM’s evolution, beginning here with a brutally honest anthem for those who have ever felt taken over by their own thoughts.

“Hurts To Exist” is a manifesto. And if this debut signals anything, she’s not afraid of treading the line between chaos and clarity. This is just the start.
